Virtualization with Oracle (Formerly Sun) VirtualBox

About VirtualBox:

VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). - VirtualBox Official Website

My Thoughts:

VirtualBox is a great platform for running operating systems in a virtual environment. It's multi-platform and I have successfully set it up very easily on both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. It also does a great job of virtualizing Linux and Windows OS's with support for seamless integration into the host OS. This means that by installing a software package in the Virtual Guest OS, one can simply move the mouse over the window and have control pulled in, it also allows more control of screen resolution, as well as a bunch of other stuff. The performance is great in terms of resources required and how well the guest OS runs. To install go to VirtualBox Download Page and get the appropriate package for your OS.

Definitions:

OS: Operating System
Guest OS: Guest Operating System, the OS that runs in the virtual environment
Host OS: Host Operating System, the OS that runs the virtual environment
